Today after breakfast we got to show our true farming skills by helping local farmers to harvest. Ethiopia has been a country waaaaay longer than Canada (or Finland) but especially walking at the farm made it seem like you traveled back in time. No tractors, no machines, just people working with their hands.
They showed us what to do and it all looked so easy until we started. The biggest help we offered was probably in the entertaining aspect since they laughed so hard watching us foreigners trying to use a scythe or guiding ox on the field. We loved to help and it was fun getting ourselves dirty and do something completely different!
After farming the farmer invited us to his house for a lunch/snack. That was something I am going to remember for the rest of my life; that farmer had very little and still wanted to share food with 10 people he didn’t know. We ate sweet potatoes, green peppers (they were spicy!), beans and taro. When we were leaving, he came outside wishing us a long healthy life and God’s blessings and it was just beautiful.
We jumped into cars and drove to our field partner’s project school where approximately 800 kids were waiting for us. As soon as we opened our car doors we heard kids shouting “I love you” and just pushing each other in order to shake our hands. Me and Jason went singing with the kids and after “head, shoulders, knees and toes” they sang their own version of it (which did not sound like our version at all!) and danced. That was definitely one of my favorite moments in here so far, singing and dancing with the kids. After the craziest dance party ever we played volleyball and soccer with the kids and just loved to hear them laughing.

At the hotel we played with cards and just enjoyed each other’s company. I love our team and building this relationship has been a true blessing. God has done great things in our team and it has been so amazing to spend time together.
